Inquiry 2 – Evaluate Day 4 (9/29/09)

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Today, we worked on group presentations and scientific investigation reports (Process and Procedure: Steps 9, 10, page 39).

Group Presentation:  Everyone in the group should participate in both the preparation and the presentation of your group’s investigation. If you want to do less in giving the presentation, you should do more in its preparation. Presentations should include visual aids, such as a poster or Powerpoint slides. Presentations are being given on Friday and Monday.

Scientific Investigation Report:  The Scientific Investigation Report will be your individual work. It is ok to discuss your report with your group, but you must use your own words when writing it. See Mr. Dowst if you need an extra copy of the guidelines handout. The Scientific Investigation Report is due on Monday, 10/5/09

Learning Target:

  • Scientific investigations include: a testable question, a design that leads to valid and reliable results, and an appropriate way of communicating and defending a scientific argument.

Upcoming:  finishing up presentations and investigation reports.

Inquiry 2 – Evaluate Day 3 (9/28/09)

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Today we got to look at our bacteria! Hopefully, your results make sense, but even if they don’t, you’ll still have something to talk about.

Today’s work:

  • Observations of your agar plates (including written descriptions and sketches)
  • Data table of your trials (with quantitative data)

Key Idea:

  • Scientific investigations include: a testable question, a design that leads to valid and reliable results, and an appropriate way of communicating and defending a scientific argument.

Upcoming:  writing (typed) Scientific Investigation Reports and preparing for group presentations.
